The MRC Global Olympiad 2024 is coming to Heraklion, Crete, and our teams from Robotakia will have the opportunity to compete alongside students from dozens of countries around the world! It is an incredible experience where participants will apply their knowledge, create, collaborate, and spend four days filled with robotics and innovation!

A few words about the competition

The competition MRC Global Olympiad is a relatively new competition which has Greek organizers and takes place in Greece, in Heraklion Crete. In addition to Greek students, hundreds of students from dozens countries abroad participate in it. Last year the participations exceeded 2500 while this year an even greater participation of students and countries is expected!

It is therefore an opportunity for our teams to compete in a competition where they will meet students from other countries of the world, directly, without needing to compete first at the national level for their qualification.

Dates of the event

The competition will take place from Friday April 11 to Monday April 14 2025! During that period schools close for the Easter, Sunday, April 13 is the Palm Sunday. We therefore expect that the students participants, along with their parents and the coaches them, will will enjoy a memorable experience that will combine a large robotics competition, with accommodation in wonderful Crete a very good season of the year.

Benefits for participants

The participation in competitions provides valuable experiences to children. It gives them the opportunity to collaborate in teams, to deepen their knowledge, to operate independently, to take initiatives, to enjoy and actively participate in a robotics celebration!

The participation in robotics competitions and festivals, regardless of distinction, are invaluable tools for the resume of the child, which is now being built from a very young age.

Previous distinctions

Last year, the Robotakia participated with 48 students and a total of 18 teams! Our kids, with their dedication and passion for robotics, managed to distinguish themselves and make us proud! Our teams also conquered the three top positions in the category Elementary School Rally as well as the first place in the category Middle School Rally! You can see more here.

Hundreds of students from Robotakia participate every year in Robotics competitions and festivals! Every year, in fact, several of our students achieve top positions and distinctions! You can see more about our school's successes here.

Competitive categories

The competition MRC Global Olympiad has several competitive categories! The competitive categories are inspired by sports and are very well placed educationally. They are therefore within the capabilities of the students, with the right choice of materials, programming languages, and level of challenge. Additionally, they are designed in such a way as to ensure an objective assessment, since the robot athletes have measurable goals. For example, in the category Rally the robot performs a course and wins the most fastest. In the category Football the team that scores the most goals etc.

Preparation classes

The Robotakia will participate this year in two competitive categories of the Primary School, this one Football and this one Rally. Correspondingly, the students of Middle School and High School will participate in the category Rally.

Preparation for each competition consists of eight workshops so it lasts about two months. The students will form teams of three children and can compete either in one or in both events.
The preparation classes for the first event will start from mid-October. Once completed, the same hours and the second event, so that teams wishing to participate in both events do not need to change day/time.

In the preparation classes, only our students who are concurrently attending the annual cycle participate; after all, most of the required experience for programming and building the robot comes from there.

The fees for the preparation workshops for each event are a total of 250€ and include:

  • 8 workshops of 90 minutes
  • The cost of the registration fee for the event, worth 50€ per team
  • The expenses for the teachers from Robotakia in Crete during the days of the competition

Team formation

The teams will be formed in the first preparation workshop by the teachers, naturally taking into account the children's wishes. Alternatively, children and parents, if they wish, can form their teams in advance. A prerequisite for this is that parents ensure their children are registered in the same preparation group and inform the teacher of the preparation group about their wish for their children to be in the same team before the start of the 1st preparation workshop.

Team names

The teams from Robotakia have a compound name, with the first component being the word Robotakia, e.g. Robotakia – Eagles. The second component is chosen by the children.

Attire

On the day of the competition, children wear a Robotakia t-shirt with their name on the back and a unique number!

Parental consent

Parental consent is required for the organizer and Robotakia, for the child's participation, as well as for the use of audiovisual material that includes the children, from the preparation and from the competition, for informational and promotional purposes.
